Hi there. I recently had my wheels aligned and was told that both my cv boots on my mazda atenza 2005 were leaking. I haven't noticed any "clicking" noises when truning so assume the joints themselves are ok. Do I just get the boots replaced or should I also get the joints replaced? How much would it cost for the boot replacement on it's own compared to the whole joint and boot replacement? Thanks, Jenny

Hi Jenny,
It's a hard one to say, but the boots possibly cost $30 each and the outer joint kit which comes with the boots could be $150+ (the inner joints seldom wear or require replacement), the labour to do the work would pretty much be the same if just the boots were replaced as if the complete joint was changed. It would depend on how much grease has leaked out or more importantly how much water or dirt has gone inside the joint. The risk could be that if the joint was cleaned out and new grease applied along with the new boot it may start to click once disturbed if the joint is worn- also keep in mind that the joint may be 16 years old.
