Hi - I have had my car for only 3 years, purchased from Greenlane Winger Suzuki. It had one lady owner who did about 50,000 K. I have done over 100,000 K now.
My automatic transmission has just had a bearing gone, is this normal? I would have thought a car should last well for at least 10 years form purchase date.

Hi there,
I have heard of the occasional bearing failure in some Nissan transmissions, however nothing vehicle or age specific. I am not sure as to what the cause is or if it could be prevented. My only thought would be lack of servicing or the incorrect oil being used. A transmission specialist may be able to shed more light for you.

Good thought, but I have the car serviced twice a year and only let an expert put the oil in.
Its just bad luck

Hi - well I have some information. The people in Japan apparently had to redesign the "bearings" for CVT automatic transmission - this was after about 2014-15. The bearing is apparently too small and doesn't last long. The new design, the bearings diameter is larger. Therefore a design fault in the automatic transmission. Could also affect Suzuki, Mitsubishi, and Nissan.
