Hi there, I am considering buying a Toyota Vanguard a from the years 2010-2012. Are there any reports around excessive engine oil consumption problems in the Vanguard? The 2.4 version apparently uses the same engine AZ-FE as the RAV4 that was reported in the US. Also any other potential issue I should be aware with the AWD versions?

Hi Vinnie,
The Vanguard is exclusively a Japanese import and has two engine types available. However because it's an import, the information of reliability as they age is unknown. These vehicles are 10/11 years old now and so have in a lot of ways had their most useful and trouble free life- so may require some extra maintenance and repairs here on in. The key is to have the vehicle checked out so you know what you're in for before the purchase (oil consumption is harder to check- but the sparkplugs might be able to tell a story if they are removed and checked)
