Hi, just bought a car some 2 months ago. Had its first service about a month ago. I am just wondering though other than the servicings that it goes in for how often should I myself check the water, oil, transmission fluid etc in the car and how often are we required to change or top these up?

I suggest you pay a visit to the outlet who serviced the car last and ask them to show you exactly where and how some of the level checks are carried out.

Each vehicle can be very different in terms of what you can and can’t check. Transmission fluid level for example is best left to the garage.

Certainly a great idea to have somebody show you how to check engine oil, coolant, windscreen washer and brake fluid levels. A check of these levels should ideally be done once every 4 weeks but I have to say most people (including myself) struggle to keep to this timeframe on a regular basis.

One of the most important checks is tyre pressures so make sure you also ask what the pressure should be for your vehicle.

Also be aware any continual loss of fluid from cooling systems and brake reservoirs is not normal and should be checked out by a qualified person.
