I have booked my 02 Forester in at local AA for a transmission flush. Has done about 200K.

My intention behind doing so is maintenance - not really having issues with transmission at present.

After having looked around on line there appears to be differing options about the benefits of getting a flush with some advising that doing so is actually a bad idea and will result in damage to the transmission - especially older ones? Citing the flushing out of old material as a reason for this.

Others suggest getting a flush is good idea.

Any one have any advice ?

Hi there,
It can be the case, that a transmission or engine is barely hanging in with old oil and zero maintenance and changing the oil can expose an issue as the new fluid cleans out the internals- this also goes for cooling systems.
However no one can know if this will happen in your case or not. The idea behind servicing is to try and make things last as long as possible and prevent failures, hopefully this will continue to be the case.
