Hi, I own a Honda Accord 2000 model 2ltr 16 DOHC motor. My fan belt (the belt that is on thr right hand side of the motor - I think it drives the alternator aswell) is squeeling and squeeking on start up and when the car idles. I have noticed a very faint smell like burning rubber after I arrive at work 40kms).

Does something need to be readjusted or tightened.

Thanks

Try switching the air-conditioning off (if fitted) as it may be this drive belt that is slipping or causing the noise. If the noise goes away, then it will confirm (or not) where the noise is being generated from.

Either way, you should definitely take the car into your preferred repairer so the noise can be checked out. It does sound like a slipping belt its just a matter of identifying which one.

A burning smell is not a good sign so get it sorted before further damage is done which may drive your repair costs up.
