My 2016 Mercedes has developed a fault in the boot closing system.
Can I expect to have that repaired free?

You will need to go back to the selling dealer and let them know about the issue and then ask for good (and maybe throw in the CGA on reasonable product life) will if they say "sorry it's out of warranty". However it could depend on the cause of the issue and if it's a manufactures defect that would ordinarily be covered under a warranty.
