Comparing a toyota hiace 2010 2.0 petrol engine to a 2014 3.0 diesel. Can you provide some info on reliability, power, and efficiency. We will mostly use locally and the occasional long trip somewhere in NZ. We don't require any towing capability, but will have increased windage from kayaks on the roof. Also wondering if long trips will put to much pressure on the petrol engine. Thanks

Hi there,
Toyota as a whole are pretty good, we are only able to access information for NZ new vehicles and not imports. NZ new Hiace in 2010 was fitted with a 2.7 petrol, while the imports were 2.0ltr petrol. The 1KD-FTV D4 diesel engines did have a few fuel system issues, so it would be good to maybe ask a diesel specialist about what to look out for.
Diesels are great for torque (pulling) and extended distance travelled on a tank of fuel. A petrol 2.0ltr could be a bit lacking in power and might burn more fuel if pushed under loads, but are a bit less problematic.
