I have my 2005 Mazda 6 regularly serviced by a Mazda dealership, the last service (140,000km) they stated that Mazda now recommended that the drive belt be replaced by 150,000km. This was estimated about ($800+) yet I can not find any evidence that Mazda has made such a recommendation. My understanding was that the 2005 Mazda 6 2.3 engine had a chain belt and that it was expected to last significantly longer than 150k.

Hi there,
Vehicles have both drive belt/s (also known as serpentine belt) that drive the air-conditioning, power steering, alternator etc and there is also reference to cam belt or chain.
I think you are blending the two, you might not need the chain replacing but the rubber drive belt gets old and cracks and eventually needs replacement.
