I have purchased a used Nissan X-Trail (2010 model, done 90k) from a dealer couple of days ago. After finding about multiple CVT transmission failures on Nissan vehicles, I was wondering how reliable is the CVT on this car. I was thinking about buying a mechanical breakdown insurance but my dealer says he wouldn't recommend it as it's a reliable car. Would it be worthwhile buying a MBI?
Many thanks

Hi there,
MBI is like any other insurance policy, it costs money per year and you may never actually need it, but there may be that one time you do - that you will be glad you have it. It is very much a personal decision and we can't advise either way.

Thanks for the reply. But have you heard about early transmission failures on these cars?

Hi there,
I've heard of one or two fairly recent transmission issues unfortunately, but as a whole the vehicle is reported to be quite good. just remember that this vehicle is 9 years old and might start requiring extra items serviced or starting to wear out.
