I am investigating buying a Japanese import car and I have identified a couple of options, as follows:
- Mazda Demio 1.3 2010, CVT auto, 27,500 km
- Toyota Auris 1.5 2010, CVT auto, 59,903

They both at a comparable price and I wanting some advice safety ratings, reliability of CVT autos for these models and what sought of cost I would be facing if I needed to replace the CVT due to failure. I am looking to buy a car for my wife with the intention of being able to do 150,000 km plus before I replace the vehicle.
Thank you for your assistance

Hi there,
The only safety ratings that can apply to imports is: https://rightcar.govt.nz/used-car-safety-ratings.html
Both these cars have statistically been very reliable and not really had many issues with their transmissions. If you had to carryout repairs, it may be that a transmission specialist could repair it, or fitting a used one would be the cheapest option. It might pay to ask a transmission specialist in your area for their opinion the these cars and the transmissions.
