My hubbie wants to buy a Nissan Presage (2002 model, with 90000 km) with the QR25DE engine (according to Wikipedia). This engine has given massive problems in the USA. Are the same issues present here in NZ regarding Japanese Imports?

Thanking you in anticipation

While we are not aware of any major issues with this engine in the NZ market I have read the comments posted on Wikipedia.

It would certainly appear to carry some baggage, whether or not this applies to the used imports here in NZ is the big unknown.

One of the problems with used imports is sometimes the engines fitted are foreign to the NZ distributor, in this case Nissan NZ, so technical information can be difficult to get hold of for the whole repair network in NZ.

If you are still keen on the car all you can do is get a full pre purchase inspection and ask for particular attention be taken of the engine performance.

To be honest, if you look hard enough you will find negative comments about almost every make/model of car ever built. You need to be very careful all the same.
