hi,
the car I'm considering purchasing has some slight seepage of oil coming from the tapat covers. if we tighten up the screws a little will that suffice. is replacing the rubber rings on each side a major job or no. my mechanic thinks it's not a big deal for the time being; just tighten screws and then replace rings at some time soonish; probably at a cost of around $250. car is a Subaru forester x 2.5 litre auto, 2007. thanks
Hi there,
It's more an annoying leak than a serious one, Subaru rocker covers often leak as they age and drip on the exhaust causing smoke. Tightening the bolts will not fix the issue and you could snap them off. The cover gasket and washers will all need replacing at the same time, it is not a big job for someone who knows what they are doing- should take no more than an hour (I worked for Subaru as a mechanic).
thanks very much. that is a relief. appreciate
