Yesterday I had one of my Pajeros blow a radiator hose. In at a Mitsi service agent now. They have found a (there words) cracked top radiator tank. So its going to capital radiators to be fixed. Question I have is this. When I bought Pajero, it was running hot, shortly after, two cracked manifolds were found and replaced. 6 months later another manifold cracked (one of the new ones). This was also replaced. On a trip to Taupo, daughter complained of hot feet in back seat on floor, and turns out main muffler baffles had collpased, consequently over heating muffler under her feet. This was replaced by Midas and then baffles collapsed in their new muffler 2 weeks later and was replaced again. Whole exhaust has been replaced by fast fit last year due to rust and my not feeling happy about Midas's muffler, plus car running hot, and its running hot again. Pulling my f....ing hair out here. Any clues?

Hi there,
In order for the exhaust system to be unusually hot, the fuel mixture could be too lean- which could be a result of a few things related to the fuel system (pump, injectors) or timing/ecu. Maybe also try a higher octane fuel- just in case. If the temperature gauge rises above half-as in the engine cooling system temperature getting hot- then there are a lot of other things to check. Waterpump operation, make sure the impeller of the pump has not sheared off- stopping to coolant flow, blocked radiator (of which you are now seeing to- because of the cracked tank) it will also pay to have the thermostat changed at the same time. Another thing to check is the cooling fan operation, does it come on at the correct time and is it effective in cooling the vehicle- as in switches off and doesn't stay on for long periods of time when the vehicle is stationary.

Hi Cade, They have had top tank repaired by capital radiators, replaced themostat, and burst hose. It was pressure tested today and failed. Appearantly a hose is leaking at rear of engine. Didnt know colling systems on a Pajero had a radiator hose at the rear of an engine.

Ah yes they have a bit of a maze of pipes and hoses, the Waterpump is at the front with a steel pipe running across the top of the engine and out the back, you have heater hoses and also smaller hoses going to the idle control unit so that when the engine warms up the idles drops. These all have potential to get old and start leaking.

Thank you Cade, gives me a little more confidence. See where I get today. Hopefully the old girl goes back into service this avo.
