Hi,

I am talking to Nissan about my 2012 X-trail Ti that the CVT has failed. I am over the 3 year warranty but have only done 50,000 kms.

Is there any record of how many CVT failures there have been on Nissan cars? I have noticed a few comments about this on the AA site and am wondering if this is a bigger issue.

I have also found that there were class actions in America due to this issue and Nissan extended warranties to 10 years (up to 2010).

I am currently seeking a good will gesture from Nissan as per their good will policy but it appears that they are going to try to wiggle out of assisting.

The cost of repair is over $6,000 and I paid $40,000 for it brand new and have been the only owner.

Many thanks

Kerry

Hi Kerry,
Unfortunately there is no way of knowing how many transmissions have failed. We usually would receive contact from vehicle owners after the vehicle is out of warranty and the manufacturer is no longer assisting. We've not heard of the X-trail transmission giving much issue. If you believe the vehicle has prematurely failed and you have recourse under the Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA) the mediation may need to come by way of a dispute tribunal.
