I just had the drive shaft hangar bearing replaced at my local garage. There is now a vibration which starts up on acceleration and gets progressively worse. The mechanic now tells me the drive shaft needs to be balanced and he will need to send the car elsewhere for the job and proposes to charge me for that. I feel the vibration is a result of the work he has done and the DS should have been balanced as part of it. What is your advice?
Thanks

Hi there,
I would think that balancing is only required when modifications have taken place, like welding, shortening etc. A hanger bearing holds the shaft in place and should not affect the balance, unless the hanger is incorrect, the shaft has been damaged or not assembled correctly. It may need further investigation or second opinion.
