Hi - I own a 2002 BMW 316Ti. My BMW mechanic tells me this is the "worst engine" BMW ever produced. The latest issue is a blown head gasket - at 120k kms - and I have to decide whether it's worth fixing or scrapping.
In order to not make a similar mistake again, can you please tell me a) why this model has such a bad record, and b) what models of BMW have the best reliability and service records?

Hi there,
I have heard that most BMW's are pretty good when it comes to age and reliability for a European vehicle. However there always seem to be a particular type or types of model that can be subject to more problems than most. For BMW it might be this one in particular, I've not heard why- But I haven't had much to do with the older ones. You might want to ask a BMW specialist for their opinion as to ones to stay away from.
