Hello

I have just had the diff replaced in my 2003 Ford Falcon XR6 with a partially rebuilt diff. Apparently, they are not able to source the parts to rebuild them anymore? The problem I am having is that when I turn to the left (mostly) and more so at hard lock it seems as the diff is binding a bit. I went into Ford and mentioned it to them and they told me I would need to drive around, taking lots of corners etc to give the additives in the oil a chance to work their way through everything. This seems odd given I had done over 500km and am still having the issue (those km were on the open road - pretty straight driving).

Have you heard of this happening before? I spent a good 30 minutes driving around in circles pretty much today but no improvement. I guess I will have to go back to Ford again but I just wanted to get a second opinion.

Kind regards

Hi there,
I do know that this can be an issue with aging cars and parts being harder to source. Because the diff is not really working until the change in drive is required, it might take a bit longer to "run" in so to speak. But on the other hand it might be the best they can do with the parts that are available. But yes definitely go back if no improvement is found. Maybe a second opinion from a driveline specialist might let you know what is acceptable or not with these cars.
