Hi, I had new tryes fitted, and the same day, driving home I straight away noticed the revs changed, definatly strange, eg normally revs low, and now up to 3 counter even between 2nd and 3rd gear change, the same between 3rd and 4th change, normally not needing change into 4th or 5th gear until a certain speed. Now I'm having to change gear much sooner, and it is not running like usual, cannot understand, is it likely something to do with the new tyre fitting?? As too coinsidential. Thanking you.

Hi there,
There could be a small change if the new tyres are smaller (or larger) in overall circumference, however- the tyre company should have fitted the exact same profile as what came off it unless they were incorrect to start with. If in doubt have the tyre company double check their work.

Hi again, I have been back to the tyre dealer, did a wheel alignment, drove home again with the same issue of high rpm and there is a definate higher use of petrol withe scale going down much quicker than before. They will put some other tyres on, bit higher grade than the "hi flys", but im worried if I spend the extra money, and have the same problem it will be pointless? The delimna is do I get it checked out at service center first, just so coincidental this all started with the change of tyres?
Many thanks again for any advise. Its a mazda 2 2009, ran perfect with the old Toyo tyres, perhaps a specific tyre needed for this model car, if you have knowledge on this, i can check with tyre dealer for peace of mind.

Hi there,
Tyre brand should not affect the car too much, a tyre profile change on the same rim diameter can make a very small change. But I would not think it to be as noticeable as you are experiencing. Tyre companies will look at the profile of tyre that came off and will generally fit a new one of the same. You also need to keep in mind the reason for the change, were your old ones worn to minimum? (1.5mm), the new ones will measure between 8-12mm. You may need a second opinion from a workshop to ensure the vehicle is in fact running correctly and the thermostat isn't stuck open or something similar. The battery may have been flat at some stage and the engine operating system could require a reset?
