Hi I have a 2010 petrol holden cruze with 72,000kms on the clock. The vehicle has been serviced annually but has just had a complete internal transmission failure requiring a $5100 transmission replacement. The internet suggests that the transmission in this model has been unreliable and that the consumer guarantees act should cover the transmission failure as they are expected to last a lot longer. A Holden mechanic admitted to me that they usually do not fail so early and that they do not do any particular service of the transmission until around 150,000 kms reportedly.
I approached Holden Customer services for support with the transmission, however they declined to help in anyway. I am wondering if I should take this to small claims court? Your opinion would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi there,
It is a gamble with an 8-year old vehicle with regards to manufacturers assistance for a fault unless they have an extended warranty or recall on the component.
However, information of the CGA for faulty products can be found here: https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/help-product-service/retail-products/returns-refunds-repairs/faulty-products/
And may only be mediated in a dispute tribunal.
