Hi,
I have a Volkswagen passat and when i got it serviced, Tristram european advised there is a small leak in water pump and later on i had issues with transmission as well. I was told by tristram that i can get the water pump replaced in 7-8 months as it was a negligible leak. I wanted to know whether that would affect the transmission. As i have mechanical insurance just wanted to be on safeside so that i can claim

If there is an leak in the water pump is should probably be rectified as soon as possible, I would contact your mechanical break down insurance and see if the water pump is covered.
In my experience a leaking water pump on this model has little effect on the transmission performance.
