Hi
I have a 1994 Mitsubishi Libero which has been looked after and has now done around 160,000km.
It's recently developed a bit of a whine which my mechanic believes is gearbox bearings and will be around $1500-$2000 to fix.
The whole car is pretty sound...what are your thoughts on going ahead with this fix?

Hi there,
You would need to weigh up the $1500-2000 (which could snowball if more is found)
and compare this to how serious the sound is, and if a different oil/ additive will give you more life without spending the dollars.
Also think about if you replaced the car, what would it be with with and without the bearings replaced, there maybe only $500 difference at a cost of above to remedy.
