I am about to purchase a VW Polo 2009 with a split CV boot. Was wondering if it is still driveable or should I err on the safer side by getting a transporter to transport the car? If I do drive it, it will be about a 7-8hr drive

Hi there,
A split CV boot in itself is not a very serious item, it is primarily a cover for the driveline CV joint, filled with grease in order to protect the unit it surrounds.
A split boot will throw a bit of grease around and make a bit of a mess, it also may allow dirt and water to enter the joint and may cause wear over a few years. It is generally not a big job to replace a boot, but the joint it protects can cost a little bit more. While it's not an ideal situation, I don't think it would be necessary to transport a vehicle for the sake of a split CV boot.
