My retired mother owns a 2014 Suzuki SX4 NZ New. Approximately a year ago the drivers door air bag trigger failed, she had it repaired at an auto electrician $350. The passenger door one has recently failed now and this has cost another $350. Surely this should be a warranty replacement from Suzuki NZ, these items should not be wear parts. I would imagine consumers garrantee act would expect these safety items should last min 10years. Where would I stand if I queried Suzuki NZ?

Hi there,
Yes it could be argued that even though the vehicle is out of warranty, the CGA may still be relevant and the vehicle has failed prematurely.
However, if the vehicle has already been repaired using aftermarket parts and without first consulting Suzuki, their first right of remedy has been taken away. So it will be harder asking them to pay for a remedy they didn't authorise. Information can be found here: https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/help-product-service/cars/solving-issues-car-dealer/

Thanks for the advice and the cga links.
Yes I have a feeling you are right about the likely response from Suzuki. Unfortunately my mother just had it repaired without questioning it and I only found out after the 2nd air bag failed. It's unfortunate the repair shop never suggested contacting Suzuki first let alone them doing it.
Thanks again
