How old can "new" tyres be? I have just had 4 new tyres fitted to my car and on checking the date codes I see that they were already 2.5 years old when fitted. Which makes them older than my car! Is this safe and/or acceptable practice?

Looks like you have a few years left this is what I found in the WoF manual

Reasons for rejection

All the tyres on a vehicle class MA, MB, MD1 or NA that was first registered or re-registered in New Zealand from 1 October 2002, other than vehicles that are incapable of exceeding 30km/h or are 30 years old or more.
