(new) 2015 Toyota Yaris (just under 3 year new car warranty) failed its warrant due to fraying of driver's seat belt. Only me using it and it is not abused. Had my previous car for 15 years with no issue - admittedly it was European. Just how long should these things last? Of course, it is not covered under the warranty and will cost $600 to replace ...

Hi there,
I would think a second opinion on how the belt became frayed in the first place might be in order. And also speak to Toyota if there is no evidence of an external influence that would be chaffing on the belt. You would expect it reasonable for a seatbelt to last the life of the vehicle under normal circumstances.
