Could you please confirm whether the analysis of a used engine oil sample by a specialist oil analysis service is a good way of determining whether unusual or premature wear, especially to main or big-end bearings, is occurring in an engine..?

The oil/ filter analysis may be able to look for bearing material fragments, but I I'm not aware of this type of test being very conclusive in determining overall engine condition.
