While researching on safety ratings of different cars I noticed that for some models, there don't seem to be any ratings available at all, including the Mazda MPV, Mazda Premacy and Toyota Wish.
As far as I can tell, neither rightcar.gove.nz, not ANCAP or Euro NCAP are showing any ratings for these cars. Is it possible that safety of various models including the ones above has never been tested and/or rated or published?
I also saw that for some cars on the rightcar website refer to a UCRS rating, but I could not find the actual website to view these ratings. Would anybody be able to point me to this website?

Hi there,
Domestic spec Imported vehicles are not given safety ratings as vehicles in NZ as they are actually built for a different market to NZ and may not have the same safety items we have in the NZ new equivalent. Used car safety ratings is an indication and lists some vehicles.
http://rightcar.govt.nz/used-car-safety-ratings.html#browse, under the section: Browse the Used Car Safety Ratings for vehicle categories

Thanks for the clarification. I though UCRS would stand for 'US Car Safety Rating' or similar.
Unfortunately I still cannot find any safety rating whatsoever available for the Mazda Premacy, Mazda MPV and Toyota Wish, as well as various others. Is there no way to gain confidence in the safety of these models? Do people who buy these cars ignore the safety aspect or rely on unqualified opinions and reviews only?

Apologies if my questions do not fit into the 'Servicing, repair, faults and reliability' category.

UC means Used Car, and it's designed to give used car buyers an indication of previous ANCAP cars on the market and what rating they receive in the used car market. Imports are not generally listed very high, if at all.
It is best to look at the safety items in each vehicle model you are looking at and determine what your minimum would be, ABS, ESC, EBD and how many airbags does it have (front and side/ pillar preferable). Unfortunately for some vehicle buyers dollars can come before safety or some may not even think to check.

Thank you, I will do that, even though I think that the safety of a car is more than the sum of its features...crash tests and/or statistical results would be helpful, but don't seem to be easily accessible.

In saying that, as you mentioned these cars are imported I looked for Japanese car safety ratings and found this site: http://www.nasva.go.jp/mamoru/en/index.html.

I presume this is better than nothing.
