Hi there, I went to the garage to flush the coolant system of my car recently and I was told this coolant should be changed every 2 years or 25,000 km. But I've found some long-life coolant online which only has to be replaced every 5years or even 10years. I am just wondering: Are those long-life coolants trustworthy? Can they really last that long period of time without changing? (5-10 years). I also found in my car manual and it says coolant to be changed every 5years so I am a bit confused - What will determine the life of the coolant? Also, I flushed the coolant system this time but I heard that sometimes it doesn't need flushing - only have to change the coolant. So what's the difference between flushing and changing? Which method should I apply each time it's due to coolant change? Thanks very much.

Hi there,
Actually there is two types of coolant, standard and long-life, some even last 100k (usually manufacture equipped from new).
Standard coolant should be changed every few years, with long-life often at least doubling this (and so is the price).
A flush would be recommended If the system is looking dirty, brown or rusty coloured, or if sludge deposits are seen in the overflow reservoir/ hedder tank.
