Hi AA, We purchased a small Imp caravan last year and I am wanting to buy a vehicle which is suitable to tow it. I'm getting conflicting information online so I thought you would be the best to ask. The caravan weighs a maximum of 800kg. What engine size minimum would I need and would an automatic or manual car be better suited for towing? Any advice you can provide would be amazing.

Hi there,
It depends where you live, a manual transmission generally makes towing manageable but can be a hindrance in stop start traffic.
An older vehicle with a CVT is generally not suited for towing and 800kgs could be a bit much.
A conventional automatic would be fine with this kind of load, most vehicles would have an unbraked tow capacity of 750kg's.
1.8ltr plus engine size should be acceptable for towing, smaller engines could do it but would be a bit slow on hills or would need to be a turbo vehicle.
