We are considering buying a 2007/2009 honda stepwagon, which i'm told has CVT transmission. Is that kind of transmission reliable as compared to manual or automatic?

Hi there,
CVT's in general operate quite different to conventional transmissions and can cost a bit to maintain and repair if things go wrong. This would cause a lot of people to stay away from CVT's in favour of some Mazda and Toyota's with conventional or less problematic CVT transmissions.
A lot of complaints have been received for shuddering in Honda transmissions of this year period, but I have not heard specifically if the Stepwagon has been affected. A transmission specialist may be able to offer specific advice on how many of these they might see.
