How suitable is a late model Toyota Previa with CVT (NZ new) for towing a caravan?

Hi there,
The Toyota specs show unbraked at 600kg and braked towing at 1,600kg, so it looks like it can tow light loads. Generally it is not recommended to tow much with the CVT transmission especially older ones (600kg), but the later ones we are now seeing higher tow ratings (1,600).
