Hi
Would you know a price that would be able to fix a crank pulley.

I assume the nose of the crankshaft has been damaged due to the crank pulley either coming loose or falling off completely.

If this is the case the ‘remedies’ are varied depending on the type/age of the vehicle, the amount of damage and your budget.

Normally the result of a loose pulley; the keyway groove on the crankshaft wears rapidly which means it is difficult to ‘lock’ the pulley onto the nose of the crankshaft when attempting a repair. Often the crankshaft nose is very short anyway so there is only a small amount of area to locate and hold the pulley tightly long term.

Some garages will try and repair the keyway groove in place by using some kind of engineering product to help bind or lock the pulley and crank together. In most cases it’s a short term repair with no guarantees.

The other more permanent repair is to remove, dismantle the engine and send the crankshaft for repair. If that is not possible, then a new or second hand crankshaft must be fitted which increases costs hugely.

Lots of unknowns with these jobs as other damage can be incurred as a result of a loose pulley.

In some cases the cause of a pulley coming loose is due to previous work being done in this area and the pulley bolt not been tighten properly on reassembly.

Repair costs could range from one to several thousand dollars to be honest.

Best you ask your repairer to give you options and guarantees on possible repair methods.
