My new Discovery Sport's (diesel 2.0L Ingenium engine) first scheduled oil change is at 34,000 kms or 24 months. It seems a long time between oil changes. Should I have it changed more often to protect my investment or is my thinking out-dated/ old-fashioned?

Hi there,
I would think that the oil the manufacturer uses is designed to last this long in conjunction with more modern engine/ oil technology. If you ever change the oil and filter types after the warranty period, then maybe the service interval could change to 12 months 10/15k. We've not received reports that state good/ bad or otherwise on the extended intervals yet. Studies show that in NZ we expect a lot more life out of a vehicle than the rest of the world, and so a thought is that a lifetime of extended service intervals may not be good for the engine in the long run. More regular oil changes shouldn't do any harm, put it that way.
