Hi,

I have a 2005 Astra AH CDXi which has done 103,000 kms. The cambelt was replaced by a previous owner in 2012 at 30,000kms. I do about 20-25,000 kms a year at the moment so come my next service in November i could be at 115,000 kms

From what i've read online the General Motors Z18XE engine in the car has a service range of 80,000 kms to 120,000 kms for the cam belt. I'm not sure what Holden have specified as the range.

If i was to get the cambelt changed how much would it set me back? Would any mechanic be able to do it or would i need to go to Holden?

The car is getting on a bit in age now so probably not worth that much but i'm hoping to continue with maintenance as i won't be able to afford a much newer car.

Are there are any issues i should be aware of for long term Astra maintenance? I've had the car for 2 years and done 40,000kms and have had it serviced annually to date.

Thanks in advance

Hi there,
The Landata service manual says the Z18XE engine cam belt is due every 90k or 72 months whichever comes first.
To be honest, these vehicles are not known for longevity and are usually plagued by problems, so the longer you have it the higher the potential for extra costs from breakages as the vehicle ages. The costs can be best obtained by a workshop who has access to parts prices and labour costs. http://locations.aa.co.nz/aa-auto-centre
