Hi,
I am still looking for the ideal MAzda/Atenza car.
question: How do you quantify mileage - if one car has done 100,000 vs. 140,000 what dollar value approx would it be?

Anon

Hi Raewyn,
Aar with typical use would travel 10,000km-14,000km for every year it is old, so a starting mileage for a 2010 car would be 70,000-90,000km. The optimum good deal would be if it was under this.
As far as value is concerned the price would increase/drop around $170 per 10,000km of mileage. With the price difference from 100,000km to 140,000km being $800 as an estimate.

Hi out of the two below which one would you think is better or should i say for the o.n.o what offer would make it a better buy than the silver one silver one inclusive of on-road i think is $13,500

We would want a roof rack anyway so we factor in about $500 for that?

Any assistance would be much appreciated :-)

Hi there,
According to our book value, the Atenza from MIK is a very good price, and the Mazda 6 is a bit over priced. I reckon $16k would be a realistic offer, you get a NZ spec car with a 2.5 engine.

Hi
Firstly i would really like to say thanks!! your help is much appreciated. I have now proceeded to get an AA inspection.
can you please answer a couple more things though. What is the law around warranties and Licensed motor vehicles? IF a website says they are Licensed motor vehicles is this definitley accurate or do i need to check somewhere that they are in fact licensed motor vehicle dealers? If i pay $13,000 for a car surely it comes with at least one years warranty? please clarify the law with this. The reason i am specifically asking this is the marketing ploy of " pay for one years warranty and get two" .....whereas i would have thought it would be under warranty anyway as that is the point of not buying privately.
The other question is around japanese GPS/reverse cameras. The one in the car I am looking at will come up in the AA inspection as not working and am trying to investigate where best to get a replacement. The dealer has already mentioend that they would provide some sort basic replacement or we share the cost and get a more upmarket replacment. I am thinking maybe best to get a deductoin off the price instead and sort it myself as thus far I ahve not been given EXACT examples of what they would replace it with...any advice or thoughts would be again of course much appreciated :-)

Hi there,
Unless you pay for some sort of mechanical breakdown insurance, there is not really any legal obligation for the seller to give a "warranty". But a selling dealer/trader must give cover under the CGA Consumer Guarantees Act, this ensures that the vehicle meets certain criteria of reliability for a short period of time after purchase. There is no such guarantee with a private seller. https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/get-guidance/cars-and-motoring/buying-a-car-from-a-dealer/
I would be more concerned if they were a dealer and not advertised the fact, than the other way round. :-)
Rapid radio, or an electronic installer might be best to speak to with regards to a replacement unit. A good one alone could cost a few hundred dollars with camera, plus installation.http://www.rapidradio.co.nz/
