I am looking at buying a Toyota Prius 2011, 1.8 or 1.5 and wondering if there is anything I need to be aware of re service costs etc. My budget is up to $15,000 hoping for 2010+ and lower mileage. It will be for Auckland and surrounds running in the main. Is a hybrid a sensible option? I have also looked at a Ford Focus Ambient 2012.

The Toyota Prius still has a conventional engine and brakes so servicing may be inline with something like a corolla, These hybrids do thrive in city environments so will be suitable, the hybrid system will require no extra maintenance but will deplete over time.
If very low fuels costs and the environment is important the focus may not be as suitable.
