Currently have a echo which is now definitely too small with 14 month old.
What recommendations for larger replacement with budget of about 10k - Any makes or models to avoid ?
Economy and reliability are priorities- mainly for city driving with occasionally weekends away

Some great cars we can suggest for starters would be, Toyota Corolla/ Allex/ Runx, Mazda 3/Axela.

Two cars that are popular but can be prone to CVT transmission issues are the Nissan Tiida and the Honda FIT, I recommend having the transmission checked thoroughly if you do look at any of these two.
