We are looking for a reliable, economical, safe car in the $5,000 - 7,000 range. I have read other posts and like the sound of suggested models of Mazdas and Toyotas. Our daughter will be doing a fair bit of open road driving in Otago region and wonder if we should go for models with 1500+cc engines & slightly larger body like the Toyota Corolla and Mazda3/Axela rather than Mazda2/Demio or Toyota Yaris/Ist ?
Would appreciate your thoughts/advice and any other Make/Model recommendations, thanks.

These two makes of vehicle have some good models that have proven to be pretty reliable.
Mazda 3 (NZ new)/ Axela and the Toyota Allex/ Runx or Corolla(NZ new).
