Just ine more thing what are the merits of diesel vs pètrol and nz new vs import?

Hi there,
A petrol vehicle is cheaper to register, but a diesel vehicle can generally go a further distance on a tank of fuel and provide more torque (pulling power) for towing.
Overall running costs between the two are quite similar, with the difference being only a few cents per km.
NZ new vehicles generally have a better spec than imports and also a better chance of obtaining a service history.
