Hi there,

I'm looking to buy a van to use for driving around NZ and camping in over summer. I'm looking at a Toyota Hiace and would like to know what's an ok mileage for a van like this?
A lot of the vans being sold on Trademe have high mileage (compared to cars) and one I'm quite interested in has about 280,000ks on it. For a car, I wouldn't even consider that, but I've read online that's not too bad for a van like this.
Hoping you can confirm or help clear this up for me!
Also, are there any years you'd recommend avoiding?

Hi Ash,
It is common for these vans to do high mileage, and generally they can handle it. Most have been used as courier type vehicles and racked up the km's quite quickly. Providing they have been serviced regularly, I see no reason for them not to last. I don't know of any bad years of Toyota vans to warn of, but I do recommend getting a pre purchase inspection carried out in order to give you an indication of overall condition.
