Have just had a history report done on a 2007 VW Golf with 91000km. Had the Vin number as it's a fresh Japan import with no plates.
The history report has NO details on previous registration in Japan or NZ naturally.

Should we be wary, could it be a damaged car that wasn't registered in Japan for a couple of years?

Hi there, the vehicle history only starts once the vehicle is registered in NZ, so this is why there is none listed in the report.
Nothing to be concerned about, it is the same for all imports.

Had a look and drive last night. It has a terrible smell inside, maybe a Japanese smoker or suchlike?

Is there anyway of deodorising them or getting rid of the smell by an expert?

Just couldn't live with that smell and don't want to get an AA inspection done until we find out about the possibility of getting rid of the interior smell.

I recommend calling to a mobile carpet cleaning company or similar who could come round and give the interior a steam clean. You really would want to remove the smell and not just deodorise it.
