Forum Buying or selling Buying a 7 seater people mover for around $10k - safe, economical to run, has some grunt, and roomy

Hi, we're upgrading to a people mover now number three is on the way. We're looking at getting a Japanese import. So far we've narrowed down our options to the Honda Odyssey, the Mazda MPV and the Toyota Estima Aeras. Is there anything we should be aware of about these models? Do you recommend one over the other? Or do you recommend another vehicle to fit out requirements? We have prioritized safety, fuel economy, towing power/over taking power and space - we need to fit in a buggy even when all 7 seats are in use. Thanks very much for your time.

Hi there,
Mazda MPV 2007, and Honda Odyssey are both good choices. Not too sure on the Estima with regards to reliability.
Maybe another few options could include the 2004 Mitsubishi Grandis or 2010 Subaru Exiga? Both seem to have a bit of room behind the rear seat. 2ltr Subaru may not be the most economical when fully loaded though.

Hi, thank you so much for your response. We've now had a look at a Mazda MPV and it suited all our requirements apart from the boot being quite small and probably not big enough for a buggy etc in the end. I've spotted the Mazda Premacy, it seems bigger all round and a great boot size. Is it still safe, economical and has some grunt? Is there anything else we should know about this model. Cheers

Hi there,
On paper, these vehicles look like a great choice. Very good engine/ transmission combinations. Also called Mazda 5 or Ford I-Max.
I haven't heard any complaints or are aware of any faults with them. I am unable to obtain any safety information on the Premacy, due to the fact it is an import, it also hasn't received any NZ safety ratings.

Have a not so related question. Does the 2007 MPV run on 91 octane or does it need 95 or 98. Thanks

Hi there,
From what I can see, this car would be best on 95 octane fuel, and the turbo 98.
