I am looking to buy a 1977 Mk 1 1300 manual Escort. What problems do I need to be aware of?

Biggest concern would be structural rust in my view. Even if its got a WoF get an expert to check it out.

Mechanically it could have a number of problems but nothing that can't be fixed at a reasonable cost although parts are becoming harder to get both new and second hand.

You buy these vehicles for nostalgia more than anything else.

Don't expect it to have the same performance and reliability of a more modern used vehicle.
