We are looking to buy a 1997 BMW Z3 (2.8 engine) soft-top that has done only 47,000kms, and costs $21,995.
Wonder whether you consider this good value and more importantly, whether the soft-top would deteriorate quickly as it will be parked outside during the working week.
Any other comments on make/model would be really appreciated.

The odometer reading is very low for the vehicles age which can allow the seller to demand a slightly higher price than the norm. If you are buying privately though I think the price is still a little high. Remember, if you buy privately there is no warranty and the Euro's like the BMW have a reputation for high running costs.
Think carefully about a soft-top being a good choice if you are parking outside during the week. Security can become a huge problem. A sharp knife is an easy way to gain access to a host of personal effects that we take for granted and believe are secure when we own a tin-top vehicle. I would imagine the rear window is plastic rather than glass and they can deteriorate very quickly if the vehicle is exposed to the weather - both good and bad.
Get a pre-purchase inspection before you buy.
From my experience these vehicles are a lot harder to sell than they are to buy.
