After 250,000km our trusty Subaru has finally given up the ghost and I've got no idea what to do with it.

Is it still worth anything (i.e. as parts?) or should I expect to pay someone to dispose of it (if so how much)?

What's the saying, somebody's junk could be somebody else's treasure? Depending on what has finally given up on the vehicle it may still have some value.

For example, if the engine has expired but the body is WOF legal, then there may be a punter out there with the opposite dilemma; good engine but a tired body. Or vice versa. Trademe springs to mind as a good place to test this theory.

If the car is an all round disaster there are companies that offer a free of charge collection service. I spoke to a really helpful guy called John at 'Pick a Part' 09 820 0801 when researching your question. There is also a company called the broken car collection company: 0800005500

Depending on the vehicle's age and condition they may offer to pay you to take it away, otherwise it's a freebie.

They have outlets throughout the North Island. I'm sure there would be a similar service offered in the South Island.

Let me know how you get on.
