Hi there, I have recently purchased a used car. I am about to sell my old car.
I have a personalised number plate on my old car.
Can I apply to swap the plates over?
e.g. put my personalised plate on the new car and take the standard plates off that car and put them on my old car. If so, what forms do I need to fill out to do this?

You can put the personalised plates on your new car, but the standard plates must be surrendered and new plates will be issued for your old car, unless you want to personalise those plates too and transfer them to the old car.
So basically, you need to take your old plates to an AA office or other centre where plates are issued, surrender those plates and complete the necessary forms to put the personalised plates on the new car and receive new plates for the old car.

I have 6 months registration left on the new plates, so by surrendering them, will I get my unused months refunded?

You won't lose the rego money you've paid - it's the vehicle you've paid the fee on, regardless of the plate number. Your fee will simply continue for 6 months with the new plate.
