I am looking at purchasing a Mitsubishi Challenger to tow an 1800 kg boat and believe the petrol version would be best.

I am also looking for information re the GDI 3500cc version with tiptronic transmission, do you have any feed back about these or should I only look at the 3000cc version?

If you are looking at the Mitsubishi range have you considered the Challenger with the 2.8 litre Diesel Turbo engine?

For towing, the diesel may be a better option for its fuel economy and low down torque benefits.

The GDI petrol engine was designed for fuel efficiency and emission control and issues such as erratic running are not uncommon.

The 3 litre engine is a good choice if you decide petrol is the way to go.

Either way it's a risk with any second hand vehicle, so make sure you get the vehicle inspected when you have made your decision and before you commit to buy.

A good service history is beneficial, especially so with the diesel and remember servicing costs will be higher with the diesel option as well.

Be prepared to keep the vehicle for some time as I suspect its resale value may drop if fuel prices continue to increase.
