I'm about buy a 1996 Subaru Grandwagon.

Can you tell me if there are any obligation on the seller to provide a new warrant of fitness on the car?

If you are buying privately (not a dealer) then a vehicle can be legally sold without a new WoF (within 30 days) provided the buyer acknowledges they are purchasing the car in that condition.

I strongly recommend you do not take this option, insist on a new WoF as part of the deal.

If you are buying from a Licensed Trader then a new warrant (within 30 days) is a legal requirement.

Be careful, there are Licensed Traders operating from home who may paint an impression they are selling privately.

I'd recommend you do an AALemonCheck car history report which will tell you if there is money owing on the vehicle also.
