I'm looking purchasing at a 2001 Ford Focus that has been imported from Singapore.
How do the Singaporean imports compare to the Japanese?
Is there anything I should look out for, and with the price of petrol these days, what fuel would this run on?

We have heard of some issues with vehicles out of Singapore surrounding the electrical wiring which can suffer severe deterioration (wiring becomes very brittle) due to the high humidity the vehicles are exposed to.
The main concern is trying to detect such a fault as the main wiring loom is enclosed in a protective insulation meaning these problems are not easily detected during an initial inspection.
To be fair I have not heard of a Ford Focus suffering in this way, it has been more the European brands.
Be very careful all the same.
I note the current petrol Focus range sold new in NZ run a fairly high compression ration engine (10.8:1) and I assume the imports are no different. For this reason I recommend the 95 octane to gain the best performance and fuel consumption.
